A Typical Day at Iona

7:30 - Time to get up!

7:45 – Good Morning, God. This is our time for the whole camp to join together, sing O Canada, share a thought, story or challenge for the day and pray together before the day gets going.

8:00 - Breakfast! The Iona Cook will greet you in the morning at Deveron, our eating shelter, with lots of yummy food to get your day started off right!

8:45 - Duties. Time to help clean up around camp. This might include washing dishes or tidying the Dainy Ray.

9:00 - Unit Clean. You’ve helped clean up camp, now it’s time to clean up your tent.

9:30 - Stibe. This is a spoonerism that comes from mixing up the the first half of the words, bible and study–stible budy. It was then shortened to just, Stibe. So, Stibe is our bible study time for campers, under the guidance of their counsellors.

10:30 - First Session. At Iona, you and your unit get to decide what you want to do for each session. Maybe you’ll want to go for a paddle in a canoe?

11:30 - Second Session. Again, you and your unit decide what to do! Maybe now, you’ll all head off to our giant fort and keep building onto it?

12:30 – Lunch! The Iona Cook arrives from Glen Mhor with all the food you’ll need in order to make lunch.

1:30 - Rest Hour. This is some time to relax, rest, read, write letters, play cards or chat with friends.

2:30 - Third Session. Your pick! What now? Bocce Ball? Swimming? Arts & Crafts? Hike? Perhaps the Iona Director and the counsellors will have a special surprise prepared for you!

3:30 - Fourth Session. Sometimes we have planned activities with the Cairn staff. For instance, one of our Adventure Programmers might come lead us in some activities at the Low Ropes site!

4:30 - Free Swim. This is where everyone at camp heads down to the waterfront for a swim! You can play in the water with other campers and your counsellor, or relax on the warm rocks.

5:30 - Dinner! Once more, you’ll get the food you need for dinner. Sometimes it comes already prepared and sometimes you get to help make it! One night for dinner we have “tinnies” where we cook everything over the fire, wrapped in aluminum foil.

6:30 - Fames. Everyone comes together to play group games. These games are really fun and change up quickly–you’ll be on your toes, running around and having a good time with your friends.

7:30 - Evening Programme. Everyone at Iona joins to play a huge campwide game. Usually there’s some kind of challenge or problem we all have to solve as we run around camp stealing gold from pirates or searching for kidnapped princesses.

8:30 - Snack. We have an evening snack–just something light to satisfy our tummies. This could be nachos, plain popcorn, pretzels or, on a hot evening, a popsicle.

8:45 - Campfire. If it’s not too buggy, we all sit together around the fire at Weathertop, our campfire pit that is also the highest spot at camp. We sing songs, perform skits, tell stories and wind down our evening together.

9:30 - Bed time. Your counsellors will get you tucked in for the night and perhaps even sing you a song to help you fall asleep. Get your rest, because there’s a brand new day just around the corner!
